Why is it important for Christians to avoid self-righteous judgment?

Answered in 1 source

Avoiding self-righteous judgment fosters humility and recognizes our own need for grace.

Self-righteous judgment often leads to an inflated view of oneself and a diminished view of God's grace. In Matthew 7:1-3, Jesus illustrates this by comparing a minor fault in another to a significant fault in oneself. When we focus on the perceived sins of others without recognizing our own, we risk misunderstanding the nature of sin and the necessity of grace. This perspective is supported by passages such as Romans 3:23, which states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Recognizing our shared human sinfulness cultivates humility, compassion, and a reliance on God's grace rather than on our works to commend us to Him.
