Why is it necessary for Christians to live righteously?

Answered in 1 source

Christians must live righteously to demonstrate their commitment to God and to avoid the condemnation that comes from sin.

Living righteously is not only a command for Christians but also a reflection of their new identity in Christ. Romans 8:3 reminds us of the high calling placed upon believers to reject ungodliness and worldly lusts. This righteousness is both an expression of gratitude for what Christ has done and a necessary means of assurance against condemnation. If we hope to be among 'the pure in heart who shall see God' (Matthew 5:8), we must actively deny sin and pursue holiness in our daily lives. Our righteousness is empowered by the Holy Spirit, who enables us to live in a manner that is consistent with our faith, ultimately leading to eternal life.
