Why is it significant that God did not allow David to build the temple?

Answered in 1 source

David's role as a man of war prevented him from building the temple, which symbolizes peace and is fulfilled in Christ.

David's inability to build the temple is deeply significant for understanding God's redemptive plan. While David had a noble desire to honor God by building a permanent dwelling for the Ark of the Covenant, he was a man of war, and God had not commanded him to undertake this task. In 1 Chronicles 22:8, God communicated to David that because of the bloodshed attributed to him, he would not be the one to build the temple. Instead, his son Solomon, a man of peace, was chosen to construct it. This foreshadows Christ, who is the ultimate Prince of Peace and through whom reconciliation between God and man is achieved. Therefore, the building of the temple represents God’s promise of a lasting peace and rest that would culminate in the Lord Jesus Christ.
