Why is knowing righteousness important for Christians?

Understanding righteousness is vital for every believer as it directly impacts our faith and how we view God's justice and mercy. Isaiah 51:7-8 encourages believers to actively know righteousness, which is rooted in faith in Christ. A proper understanding of righteousness helps us recognize our inability to attain it by our own efforts (Romans 3:10), leading us to depend wholly on Christ for salvation. Without this knowledge, we may mistakenly believe we can earn favor with God through our works, which contradicts the essence of the gospel.
