Why is regeneration by the Holy Spirit important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is vital as it transforms believers, enabling them to live according to God's will and confirming their salvation.

Regeneration, or spiritual rebirth, is a critical doctrine in sovereign grace theology that emphasizes the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 that one must be 'born again' to see the kingdom of God. This act of regeneration is solely the work of the Holy Spirit, who imparts new life, grants faith, and causes the believer to be a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Without this transformative work, individuals remain in their sins, incapable of self-reform or truly understanding spiritual truths. Regeneration is essential not only for salvation but also for ongoing spiritual growth and obedience to Christ, establishing a believer's identity in Him.
