The Jordan River symbolizes the obstacles of sin that humanity must cross to enter salvation.
The Jordan River, described in Joshua 3, serves as a powerful symbol of the barriers that sin creates between humanity and salvation. In the context of Israel's journey, the river represented a significant obstacle, particularly during flood stage, which is analogous to the overwhelming nature of our sinfulness and unrighteousness. Just as the Israelites could do nothing to cross the Jordan without God's intervention, individuals cannot overcome their sins leading to separation from God. However, when the priests carrying the Ark stepped into the water, God miraculously stopped the flow, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground. This illustrates how Christ has removed every barrier to salvation, enabling His people to enter into the promised spiritual rest, demonstrating His power over sin and death.
