Why should Christians pursue righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Christians pursue righteousness as an expression of gratitude for their salvation and in honor of God.

The pursuit of righteousness in the life of a believer is not for achieving salvation but rather a response to Christ's redemptive work. 1 Peter 2:24 highlights that Christ bore our sins so that we might live unto righteousness. This means that our actions and life choices should reflect the grace we have received. Motivated by love and gratitude, believers seek to live in a way that pleases God, not out of obligation to earn favor, but from the desire to glorify Him and evidence the transformative work of the Holy Spirit in their hearts. In essence, our pursuit of righteousness is an outward manifestation of the inward reality of our faith in Christ.
