Why should Christians seek things above?

Answered in 1 source

Christians should seek things above to align their hearts and minds with the values of God's kingdom and to live in light of their eternal hope.

In Colossians 3:2, Paul encourages believers to 'set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.' This admonition is vital for Christians as it reflects their new identity in Christ, who is seated at the right hand of God. Seeking things above means prioritizing eternal truths over temporal concerns and living in accordance with God’s purposes. The believer's life, hidden with Christ, is not meant to be consumed by earthly pursuits that do not lead to righteousness or spiritual growth. Instead, an eternal perspective fosters a deeper relationship with Christ and an expression of His kingdom in the world, empowering believers to live out their faith authentically as representations of Christ’s love and grace.
