In the sermon "Storm Warning #38," the main theological topic addressed is the sovereign mercy of God in salvation and the centrality of Christ in the believer's faith. The preachers emphasize that salvation is not based on human merit but entirely on God's unmerited grace, as shown in various Scripture references, including Ephesians 2:8, Romans 9:15-16, and Matthew 11:28-30. The speakers consistently assert that faith is a gift from God, highlighting that true faith does not arise from human effort but from God's work within the believer. This sermon underscores the Reformed doctrine of total depravity and irresistible grace, portraying the necessity of reliance on Christ as the sole source of righteousness and salvation, while encouraging listeners to respond to God’s call for salvation urgently.

Key Quotes

“My faith is not a part of the righteousness in which I am justified any more than my mouth is a part of the food which sustains my body. Faith is God's gift.”

Warm greetings, friends, near
and far. The Lord Jesus Christ be magnified
forever and ever. His loving kindnesses, tender
mercies, and compassions are new every morning. Great is His
faithfulness. His mercy endureth forever. This is Sinner Saved coming at
you with the following short evangelistic gospel message,
which is sponsored by preacher Wayne Boyd and the Brethren in
Christ at First Baptist Church located in Almont, Michigan,
USA. And God willing, this broadcast
will reach you, Lima Charlie, loud and clear. It is my hope
and prayer unto God Most High, the only Holy Father, that His
only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, the Lord our righteousness, be
greatly exalted, that His everlasting gospel be clearly proclaimed,
that the pride of mere flesh and blood men be humbled, and
that His and next saints be greatly encouraged and comforted in these
evil and perilous times. Please consider having paper
and pencil handy to jot down the scriptural references for
your own follow-up study. And so we begin with the weekend
gospel message to follow, for all hands. Heads up! Please find enclosed encouragement
and so great salvation by the perfect and finished work of
our Lord Jesus Christ in saving poor, needy, and wretched sinners
by His sovereign free grace. That is to say, Almighty God
and His unmerited favor to save me and you from our sins and
from hell. The eternity of Almighty God. Try for a moment to conceive
of a being without a beginning, a being who does not become older
as ages roll away. Fly back in imagination, millions
of millions of millions of years, until reason is confounded and
imagination is wearied in the flight. God then existed and
what may at first appear paradoxical, he had then existed as long as
he is now. You would then be no nearer the
beginning of his existence than you are now, for it has no beginning,
and you cannot approach to that which does not exist, nor will
his being ever come to an end. add together ages of ages. Multiply them by the leaves of
the trees, the sand on the seashore, the dust of the earth. Still
you will be no nearer the termination of Jehovah's existence than when
you first began your calculation. That was from preacher Edward
Payson. The real issue The pulpit's real
issue is this, Christ and Him crucified. Men whose eyes are
fixed on Christ do not argue. They do not love controversy
whose hearts are touched with Him. They do not look for issues
and stickly theological problems who are busy knowing and showing
Christ. Those whose interest is singularly Christ have little
difficulty settling all matters and quickly in His word. The
problem they see is sinners, lost and hell-bound, and the
only answer they see is Christ and Him crucified, the Lord our
righteousness." That was from preacher Henry Mahan, slightly
edited toward the end there. Faith, a work of God. My faith
is not a part of the righteousness in which I am justified any more
than my mouth is a part of the food which sustains my body.
Faith is God's gift. Please see, friends, Ephesians
2, verse 8. It is the fruit of the Spirit
in me, whereby I see, feed upon, and glory in Christ, as he is
revealed to me and in me. Faith is not a work performed
by us in order to be justified, but it is a work of God in us
by which we apprehend and glory in our justification. What debtors we are to God's
grace! It is a very narrow way to heaven,
and none can be rightly in the path except by God's Nor can
they keep there except by grace. What debtors we are to grace! God has been very kind and good
to me in various ways for more than sixty-one years. How little
gratitude for such great blessings in upholding, keeping, and preserving
us to the present moment! If we know that it is a mercy
to be out of hell, we have no room for boasting. What a precious
savior Christ is to those who really need him. Outstanding. I think that's another old-timer
preacher, William Tiptaft. My almighty friend. Poor, weak, and helpless, though
I am, I have a mighty friend. Christ Jesus is his precious
name. He loves me without end. He loves
me without end. Though I was ruined by the fall,
He loved me still the same, And died to save my guilty soul. O praise His holy name! O praise his holy name. In seeking grace my friend has
come and found this wandering sheep. He rescued me from sin
and death, and he my soul will keep, and he my soul will keep. Each day new blessings from above
my friend provides for me. He fills my heart with joy and
peace, and guides unerringly, and guides unerringly. When at
his call this life shall end, and I will leave this place,
then shall the greatest joy be mine to see my dear friend's
face. To see my dear friend's face. Sovereign mercy! When Moses requested
of the Lord, shew me thy glory, he received this answer. And
he, meaning Almighty God, and he said, I will make all my goodness
pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee,
and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will
show mercy to whom I will show mercy." Please see Exodus 33,
19. If words mean anything, it is
obvious that the right to give mercy to whom he will is eternally
joined to the glory of the Lord. When God is pleased to bestow
mercy, is that not His great prerogative? And is it not also
His right, if He shows mercy, to bestow it upon whom He will?
Mercy, therefore, cannot be a matter of debt or merit, for that which
is earned is not mercy. The mercy of Almighty God in
the salvation of sinners is not because any sinner was worthy
to be saved, nor did they do something to draw forth the salvation
of God. Saving mercy is solely due to
the royal right, kindness, and favor of Jehovah, which he bestows
upon whoever he wants to. Such is the importance of this
marvelous truth that the Apostle Paul was inspired of the Holy
Spirit to essentially repeat the divine declaration in the
New Testament. Quote, for he saith to Moses,
I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. and I will have compassion
of whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that
willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom
he will he hardeneth. Please see Romans nine, verses
15 through 16, and then also verse 18. The Master said in
Matthew 11, 15, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. Who
would dare deny the truthfulness of the word of the Lord or object
to this fact by saying that for the Lord to manifest mercy to
some but not to all would be unfair to a vast multitude of
sinners? The Lord determined in old eternity
to pour upon them saving mercy solely because he determined
to bestow it to the praise of the glory of his mercy and grace. And since Jehovah is the fountain
and giver of mercy, it is obvious that there was nothing the recipients
did to merit such goodness. Mercy arose out of the eternal
loving kindnesses of the Lord. to the objects of election unto
salvation. Pay attention. Remember, dear
friends, the Lord does nothing in time that he did not ordain
in eternity. Though unbelieving rebels balk
at the thought of distinguishing mercy, their complaint is not
only without biblical foundation, but it is an act of sheer foolishness. Hear the word of the King, the
Lord Jesus Christ. Is it not lawful for me to do
what I will with mine own? Matthew 20, verse 15. That was from preacher Jim Bird.
The sinless Savior. Much notice is taken in scriptures
of the innocence, holiness, and righteousness of the Redeemer,
that He was holy in His nature, harmless in His life, that He
knew no sin, nor ever committed any, that He, the just and holy
One, suffered for the unjust." A great emphasis is put upon
this, that the price with which men are redeemed is the precious
blood of Christ Jesus, as of a lamb without blemish and without
spot, 1 Peter 1.19. For if he had any sin in him,
he could not have been a redeemer from sin, nor his blood the price
of redemption. And yet more than all this, it
is necessary to make this price a full and adequate one. It must
not be the blood of a mere creature, but of one that is God as well
as man, and such is Christ, the God-man mediator, our beloved
advocate. Therefore Christ, who is God,
is said to purchase the church with his own blood, Acts 20. 28 being God and man in one person
this gave his blood a sufficient virtue to make such a purchase
and a peculiar emphasis is put upon the blood being the blood
of Jesus Christ the Son of God which cleanses from all sin 1
John 1 7 and that was from old-time preacher and theologian John
Gill a reading from 2nd Samuel 2 8 he raiseth up the poor out
of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to
set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne
of glory." A man can never reach heaven unless he travels heavenwards. Zion words, in the way that God
has marked out for his people to walk in. It is a delusion
to think that we are going to heaven unless we know something
of divine teaching in the soul. But if we know anything of divine
teaching, we know what it is to be poor and needy. We know
what it is, more or less, to have our mouth in the dust. But
many people do so mistake the way to heaven, the ordinary way
for most folks is set up a ladder. I think you could compare that
to perhaps works religion kind of stuff. To set up a ladder
to reach from earth to heaven and progressively clambering
up the different rounds at last to climb up into the abode of
God. But that is not the way of God's people. They have to
go down, down, down that they may be raised up It is not with
them first up, up, and up to scale the battlements of heaven.
Every such step upwards in self is in reality only a step downwards. On the other hand, every step
downwards in self, downwards into the depths of poverty, downwards
into felt misery, downwards into soul trouble and the real groanings
of a broken heart, every such step downwards in self is, in
fact, a step upwards in Christ. Until we get to the very bottom,
there is no promise. He raises up the poor out of
the dust. But how? How does it in a moment? Excuse me, he does it in a moment. The Lord does not raise up His
people round by round, enabling them to clamber and crawl with
their hands and feet to Him, but when He lifts up the poor
out of the dust, He gives them a smile which reaches, so to
speak, to the very bottom of their hearts. And that smile
has such a miraculous power. such a drawing efficacy, that
it lifts them in a moment out of the dust into the very bosom
of God. When therefore the Lord raiseth
a poor out of the dust, he does not lift them up by a gradual
process, step by step, as they went down, They were perhaps
many years going down, but they are raised up in a moment. The
God of all grace, by one word or by one smile, lifts them up
in a moment out of the lowest depths of felt degradation and
sets them among princes and makes them inherit the throne of glory. Hallelujah, that was from old-timer
preacher JC Philpott approximately the year of our Lord 1860 It is written in Isaiah 45 22 where
our Lord Jesus Christ commands look unto me and be he saved
all the ends of the earth for I am God and there is none else
and The Master also says in Matthew 11, 28 through 30, Come unto
me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give
you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden
is light. Friends, it is imperative that
you flee to Christ Jesus today, not tomorrow, for none of us
are promised another day on this planet. Today is the day of salvation. Call upon the name of the Lord
while he may be found and seek him while he is near. Only by
being in Christ, the ark of our salvation, may we be delivered
from the fierce wrath of almighty God, which is coming soon upon
the wicked. This about wraps up this evening's
broadcast. I trust almighty God will awaken
his sleeping elect and draw multitudes of men, women, and children around
the world to his only begotten son, Christ Jesus, the Lord our
righteousness. Yehovah Sidkenu. Bless the name. Baruch Hashem. If you're led
