How do we know God calls us to serve others?

Answered in 1 source

God calls us to serve by transforming our hearts to be willing to minister to others rather than seeking to be served.

In Luke 22:25-26, Christ teaches that true greatness in the kingdom of God is found in service. Servants are willing to help others instead of seeking their own benefit. Moses exemplifies this when he assists the daughters of Reuel by helping them draw water for their flocks. God shapes His people into willing servants, and it is through these transformative experiences that we are prepared to serve. Serving others is a reflection of Christ's heart, who did not come to be ministered unto, but to minister and give His life for others.
