How do we know God is the living and true God?

Answered in 1 source

God is known as the living and true God because He acts and engages with His creation, unlike idols made by man.

The Bible distinguishes the living and true God from idols, which are dead and impotent. In Psalm 115, David emphasizes that our God is in the heavens and does whatever He pleases, affirming God’s active sovereignty over all creation. Unlike the idols crafted by human hands that cannot speak, hear, or act, the true God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He interacts with humanity and reveals Himself through His works, especially the work of salvation. The divine prerogative of God ensures that He does not require man’s permission to fulfill His purposes, a stark contrast to the lifeless man-made deities. This engagement with us is evidence of His reality and existence as the living God, making Him deserving of our trust and worship.
