How do we know God judges the heart?

Answered in 1 source

God's Word explicitly claims He looks at the heart, as seen in 1 Samuel 16:7.

We can be assured of God's judgment of the heart through multiple Scripture references that affirm His ability to see beyond mere appearances. In 1 Samuel 16:7, when the Lord instructs Samuel not to look at outward appearances, He establishes that divine judgment operates at a deeper level. God's declaration, 'For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart,' is pivotal in understanding His perspective.

Moreover, this theme is reinforced throughout Scripture. In Psalm 139:1-2, David acknowledges God's intimate knowledge of him: 'O Lord, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar.' These verses illuminate God’s comprehensive understanding of our internal lives, which extends beyond the superficial observations made by man. Thus, we have clear biblical assurance that God indeed judges the heart.
