How do we know if someone is truly called to the ministry?

Answered in 1 source

A true call to the ministry is confirmed by an inner conviction in the minister's heart and through the acknowledgment of the church community.

To determine if someone is truly called to the ministry, there are typically two witnesses that affirm this calling: the internal witness in the person's own heart and the external witness in the hearts of the believers around them. The inward conviction manifests as a deep burden and desire for the work, often accompanied by feelings of inadequacy and a recognition of God’s presence in their ministry. The external confirmation typically comes from the discernment of the congregation, which may acknowledge the man's gifts and spiritual maturity. Without these affirmations, a person may be proceeding on mere ambition rather than a genuine call from God, as seen in 1 Timothy 3.
