How do we know Jesus is the Good Shepherd?

Answered in 22 sources

We know Jesus is the Good Shepherd because He fulfills the prophecies of the Old Testament concerning God's shepherd for His people (John 10:11, Ezekiel 34).

Jesus identifies Himself explicitly as the Good Shepherd in John 10:11, stating that He lays down His life for the sheep. This claim reflects His sacrificial nature and the fulfillment of Old Testament expectations where God promises to shepherd His people directly. In Ezekiel 34, Jehovah prophesies about a shepherd who would seek and save the lost, an assurance that finds its ultimate realization in Jesus Christ. Through His ministry, miracles, and teachings, Jesus manifests this shepherding role, claiming ownership and intimate knowledge of His flock, assuring them of His guidance and protection.
