How do we know prayer is effectual?

Answered in 1 source

Prayer becomes effectual when it is prompted by the truth of the gospel, leading believers to cry out for God's help.

Prayer is deemed effectual as it arises from the revelation of Christ through the gospel. In Isaiah 51, we see how the prayerful cry, 'Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord,' demonstrates submission to God’s power and wisdom. Believers, having seen the truths of the gospel, are impelled by the Holy Spirit to engage in prayer that is not merely for their desires, but in alignment with God's will and purposes. As a result, this prayer manifests in submission, praise, and assurance, reflecting the work of Christ in the lives of His people. Thus, effectual prayer flows from a heart transformed by the gospel.
