How do we know that Christians are children of God?

Answered in 1 source

Christians are confirmed as children of God through the new birth, which produces faith and righteousness.

Christians are recognized as children of God through the doctrine of regeneration, which refers to being born again. 1 John 5:1 states, 'Everyone believing that Jesus is the Christ of God has been born.' This indicates that true believers do not realize their relationship with God merely through their actions but as a fruit of their new birth. This new birth results in faith and a changed life that is evidenced by a desire for righteousness. Furthermore, this transformed state is not just a sign of adoption but a manifestation of God's eternal plan, where those who are born of God naturally carry the traits of their heavenly Father, namely, practicing righteousness.
