How do we know that God will have mercy on us?

Answered in 2 sources

The assurance of God's mercy is found in His promise to abundantly pardon those who return to Him through Christ.

Isaiah 55:7 reassures us that 'Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him.' This highlights that God’s mercy is abundant and assured for those who genuinely turn away from their own self-righteousness and look to Christ as their only hope. Throughout Scripture, such mercy is extended without measure to all who come to Him in faith, acknowledging their inability to save themselves. The centrality of Christ's redemptive work assures believers that God will receive them with open arms and grant them pardon for their sins.
