How do we know that grace is irresistible?

Answered in 4 sources

We know grace is irresistible because Scripture shows that God actively draws His chosen people to Himself, overcoming all resistance.

The doctrine of irresistible grace is rooted in the belief that when God decides to save an individual, His grace will transform and draw that person to faith in Christ. This is based on passages such as John 6:44, which states, 'No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him.' This illustrates the divine initiative in salvation, where God does not merely make salvation available but actively works in the hearts of the elect to bring them to faith.

Furthermore, in Ephesians 2:8-9, we see that faith itself is a gift from God, affirming that salvation is entirely a work of grace. Believers can assure their hearts knowing that God’s purpose cannot be thwarted (Isaiah 43:13), and once He has chosen to extend His grace, nothing can resist His will. Therefore, the concept of irresistible grace emphasizes the security of salvation, assuring believers of their place in the fold of Christ.
