How do we know that Jesus is represented by David?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus is referred to as the Son of David and fulfills the role of the anointed King and Savior depicted in the life of David.

Throughout Scripture, David is portrayed as a type of Christ; he is called 'the beloved' because of his special relationship with God. The New Testament emphasizes this connection, identifying Jesus as the Son of David (Matthew 1:1), who fulfills the promise of an eternal kingdom given to David (2 Samuel 7:16). David's life reflects the future work of Christ—his victories over physical enemies symbolize Christ's triumph over sin and death. Just as David was anointed by God to lead and protect Israel, Jesus was anointed as the Messiah to deliver His people, illustrating how God’s redemptive plan unfolds through David’s lineage.
