How do we know that salvation requires the work of the Holy Spirit?

Answered in 1 source

The Holy Spirit is essential for convincing believers of their sin and leading them to Christ, ensuring that salvation is entirely a work of God.

Salvation, according to Scripture, is not a product of human effort but a divine act facilitated by the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes, as described in John 16, He has the primary role of convincing individuals of their sin, which is essential for recognizing their need for a Savior. Without the Holy Spirit's work, there can be no acknowledgment of sin, and hence, no true conversion. The Holy Spirit also convinces believers of righteousness and judgment, affirming Christ's perfect obedience which serves as our righteousness and demonstrating that judgment has been satisfied through His sacrifice. This threefold work underscores the necessity of the Holy Spirit in the redemption process, illuminating the truth of the Gospel and empowering believers to embrace it.
