How do we know that the fear of God is important for Christians?

Answered in 2 sources

The fear of God is foundational, enabling believers to seek Christ and fully rely on His grace for salvation.

The fear of God is crucial for Christians as it reveals our understanding of God's character and our own sinfulness. According to Scripture, such fear is what motivates us to seek God's mercy through Christ. As discussed in Psalm 25, those who fear the Lord are taught His ways and receive guidance. Without the fear of God, we risk falling into either self-righteousness or despair, believing mistakenly that we can earn God's favor. Recognizing our need for Christ as our Savior, however, leads us to experience true freedom and peace through grace, as perfect love casts out fear.
