How do we know that we must be born again to set our affections on Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Christ must be revealed to us, and we must be regenerated by the Holy Spirit before we can truly seek Him (John 3:7).

The necessity of being born again is underscored in John 3:7, where Jesus tells Nicodemus that one must be born again to see the kingdom of God. It is through spiritual regeneration by the Holy Spirit that individuals are given the ability to set their affections on Christ. Prior to this divine transformation, our natural inclination is towards worldly desires, leading to a lack of genuine affection for spiritual matters. Once regenerated, believers can recognize the supremacy of Christ and are drawn to Him, resulting in a complete reorientation of their hearts and minds toward seeking Him and His righteousness.
