How do we know the church is composed of believers?

Answered in 1 source

The church comprises both believers and non-believers, yet true members are those whom God has called and who demonstrate genuine faith.

While every local church can have a mixture of believers and non-believers, the true church, or the universal church, consists solely of God's elect, those whom He has called to salvation (1 Corinthians 1:22-24). Believers possess the same marks: they are new creatures in Christ, enjoy repentance and faith towards Him, and exhibit a love for Christ and His purposes. This fact illustrates that the church's identity transcends physical membership, relying instead on spiritual truth and God's calling.
