How do we know the law of God is important in the gospel?

Answered in 1 source

The law of God serves to reveal sin and point us toward Christ, making it critical for an accurate gospel presentation.

The law of God is essential in understanding the fullness of the gospel as it reveals humanity's sinfulness and need for salvation. The Apostle Paul describes this function of the law in Galatians 3:24, stating that the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ. It prepares the heart to understand the depth of sin and the necessity of grace. When we comprehend the holiness of God’s law, we see our failure to meet its requirements, leading us to recognize our need for a savior. Romans 7:7-13 further illustrates that it is through the law that one understands sin for what it truly is. Neglecting the law in gospel presentations can lead to a superficial understanding of sin and a diminished view of salvation’s necessity. Therefore, the law is not opposed to the gospel; rather, it lays the groundwork for understanding and receiving the grace offered through the gospel.
