How do we know true faith is different from false faith?

Answered in 2 sources

True faith produces life-transforming good works, whereas false faith consists merely of verbal profession without change.

The distinction between true faith and false faith is sharply illustrated in the teachings of James. While many profess belief in Christ, true faith is accompanied by a transformation that results in good works (James 2:14-19). The faith of the devils reflects a belief devoid of repentance and change. True saving faith involves a heart change that prompts believers to act according to God’s will. This faith must be evident in one's life through love and good works that glorify God. Those whose lives remain unchanged may harbor a false faith, as genuine faith always leads to a life characterized by obedience and good deeds through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
