How do works relate to salvation according to the Bible?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that salvation is not by works but through faith in Jesus Christ, as the law reveals humanity’s inability to earn righteousness.

Salvation cannot be earned through good works, as the law ultimately reveals man's inability to meet its demands. Jesus showcased this truth through His conversation with the rich young ruler, where He pointed to the commandments. Despite the man's claims of obedience, Jesus exposed his heart's covetousness. Paul reiterates this in Romans 3:20, stating that no one will be justified by works of the law, affirming that it is by grace through faith in Christ alone that one can be saved, while works are the fruit of genuine faith.
