How does the concept of a refuge relate to God's justice?

Answered in 1 source

God's justice requires a refuge—Christ—where sinners can find safety from the law's demands.

God's justice is an essential aspect of His character. The law's requirements must be met, and those who fail to comply face its consequences. However, God, in His mercy, provided a refuge in Christ. As our city of refuge, Christ satisfies the law's demands and provides protection from judgment. Those who recognize their sin and flee to Christ for refuge find safety because He has fulfilled justice through His sacrifice. This is beautifully illustrated in Romans 3:26, where it states that God is just, and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Thus, Christ’s work allows us to escape divine justice and obtain grace.
