How does the concept of being indebted to God relate to sin?

Answered in 1 source

Being indebted to God signifies our moral and spiritual obligation due to sin, which we cannot pay without Christ's sacrifice.

The concept of indebtedness to God illustrates the gravity of our sin. Every person is morally bound to pay the debt of sin they owe to God, as highlighted in Romans 6:23. We recognize that the wages of sin is death, and thus, without Christ, we face eternal separation from Him. However, the beauty of the gospel lies in the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, who paid the debt we could never meet. By recognizing our spiritual bankruptcy and turning to Christ in faith, we receive His righteousness and forgiveness, thus being justified before God.
