How does the concept of cities of refuge relate to Christ?

Answered in 1 source

The cities of refuge in the Old Testament serve as types of Christ, who provides ultimate safety and shelter for His people.

In the Old Testament, cities of refuge were designated safe havens for those accidentally guilty of manslaughter, offering them protection until they could stand trial. This notion beautifully foreshadows Christ, who is our ultimate refuge. Hebrews affirms His eternal priesthood and the everlasting safety those who take refuge in Him possess. Just as the manslayer found security in the city until the death of the high priest, believers find eternal refuge in Christ, whose sacrificial death secures their safety from sin and judgment, allowing them to reside forever in communion with God.
