How is a right heart with God received?

Answered in 1 source

A right heart is received as a gift from God through grace, the merits of Christ, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

According to Scripture, a right heart with God is not something we can achieve through our efforts but is a divine gift. In Ezekiel 36:26, God promises, 'A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.' This transformation occurs through grace, as seen in Ephesians 2:8-9, which states that we are saved by grace through faith, not of ourselves. Additionally, the righteousness of Jesus Christ, who dwells within us, enables us to have a heart oriented towards God. The Holy Spirit also plays a crucial role, as Romans 8:9 affirms that those who belong to Christ have His Spirit living in them, guiding and empowering them to live rightly.
