How should Christians respond to authority?

Answered in 2 sources

Christians are called to submit to governing authorities as they are ordained by God, maintaining a witness that honors Him.

According to 1 Peter 2:13-15, believers are instructed to submit to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake. This submission is not blind obedience; it is based on recognizing that all authority is established by God. Christ Himself submitted to earthly authorities, setting an example for us. When faced with laws that contradict God's commands, Christians must obey God rather than men; however, in general, the posture of submission demonstrates our respect for God’s sovereignty. This obedience can also serve as an opportunity for the faithful to shine as lights in a dark world.
