People often rely on false refuges such as religious rituals and personal morality instead of Christ.

Individuals may build false refuges based on a variety of beliefs, such as church membership, baptism, or personal righteousness. Such refuges are deemed inadequate because they do not rely on the saving power of Jesus Christ. Isaiah 28:14-15 describes those who make a 'covenant with death' and trust in lies. Only faith in Christ can provide the security needed for true salvation, as all other attempts will ultimately fail in the face of God's judgment.
