He emphasizes that afflictions of the gospel are to be expected and are part of a believer's journey. These afflictions serve to weaken our reliance on fleshly things and to deepen our dependence on God's grace. Through these trials, we learn to bear up under suffering through the power of God, trusting Him completely as we are humbled before Him.
