What does the Bible say about Jehovah Nissi?

Answered in 14 sources

Jehovah Nissi, meaning 'The Lord is my Banner', is a title given by Moses in Exodus 17 after God delivered Israel from Amalek.

In Exodus 17:15, Moses built an altar and called it Jehovah Nissi, acknowledging God's role as their protector and deliverer during the battle against Amalek. This name signifies God’s sovereignty and faithfulness to His people. Just as Moses held up the rod of God during the battle, it symbolizes Christ who, through His sacrifice, leads and protects His people against spiritual enemies like sin and death.
