According to 1 John 2:3-4, one knows they have come to know God if they keep His commandments. Living in unrepentant sin contradicts this claim and demonstrates a false profession of faith. The New Testament consistently teaches that genuine faith produces a holy life, and those who continue to sin willingly show they are not true followers of Christ. As Spurgeon points out, a profession of faith must be accompanied by a transformed life; otherwise, it is just empty talk.
