What does the Bible say about man's deadness in sin?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that man is dead in trespasses and sin, completely unable to respond to God without divine intervention.

According to Ezekiel 37 and Romans 3, Scripture portrays humanity in a state of total spiritual deadness, akin to dry bones in a valley. This imagery illustrates the reality that by nature, people are without hope and unable to seek God. The Apostle Paul emphasizes in Romans 3:10-12 that there is none righteous, and everyone has turned aside. Just as a dead man cannot respond to anything, spiritually dead individuals cannot believe, repent, or love God without the life-giving intervention of the Holy Spirit. Only God can breathe life into the spiritually dead and transform them through His sovereign grace.
