What does the Bible say about our nature and sin?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that our nature is sinful and that we have the root of all sin within us.

The Bible makes it clear that all humanity shares a sinful nature, as seen in Romans 3:23, which states that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This sinful nature manifests itself in various ways, and while outwardly we may not engage in scandalous sins, inwardly we possess the same sinful tendencies as the ungodly. Thomas Watson illustrates this by comparing the sin in the wicked to flames and the sin in the godly to hidden embers, reminding us that the potential for sin exists in every heart.
