What does the Bible say about prosperity theology?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible rejects prosperity theology, teaching that true prosperity often comes through adversity and spiritual growth.

Prosperity theology, which claims that faith guarantees wealth and health, is contrary to scriptural teachings and the historical experiences of God’s people. God's true means of prosperity often involve trials and tribulations, as exemplified by Job, who was thought to be under judgment when in fact, God was using his suffering to enrich his spiritual life. Habakkuk reminds us that God’s ways are not our ways; true growth often comes through adversity rather than worldly ease and plenty. The lives of the saints throughout scripture illustrate that suffering often precedes true spiritual victory and prosperity.
