What does the Bible say about self-deception in sin?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible warns that claiming to be without sin is self-deception; all have sinned and need God's forgiveness.

The Bible explicitly states in 1 John 1:8, 'If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.' This is a reminder that all of God's children recognize their status as sinners, as the Holy Spirit reveals this truth to them. In acknowledging our sinfulness and confessing our sins, we receive God's faithfulness in forgiveness and cleansing, as affirmed in 1 John 1:9. Therefore, realizing and admitting our sin is crucial for maintaining fellowship with God and receiving His grace.
