What does the Bible say about the significance of Jerusalem?

Answered in 3 sources

Jerusalem represents God's chosen people and the future Kingdom of God, reflecting both historical and spiritual dimensions.

In the Bible, Jerusalem signifies much more than a mere geographical location; it stands as a powerful symbol of God's covenant people. The inhabitants of Jerusalem, as seen in Nehemiah, are an illustration of the church today, who have been set free from the bondage of sin and called to worship God in spirit and truth. Christ referenced Jerusalem in the context of the coming kingdom, where His people would reside eternally. Thus, as believers, we are part of the new Jerusalem, which is a picture of the church and the eternal fellowship we will have with God.
