What does the Bible say about work and labor?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible presents work as a duty given by God, a means to glorify Him, and significantly impacted by the fall.

The Bible speaks extensively about work and labor, highlighting that it is a duty established by God as part of creation. In Genesis 1, humans are commanded to be fruitful, multiply, and exercise dominion over the earth. This sets the foundation for work as a means to glorify God and fulfill our responsibilities as His image-bearers. However, the nature of work changed after the fall, introducing toil and struggle into the human experience. God pronounced a curse on the ground, making work painful and laborious (Genesis 3:17-19). Despite this, through redemption in Christ, work is elevated with new meaning, allowing us to serve and glorify God in our labors (Romans 12:11).
