Why are divisions within the church problematic?

Answered in 1 source

Divisions within the church undermine unity in Christ and display carnal behavior among believers.

In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul addresses the strife and divisions among believers in the Corinthian church, pointing out that such behavior indicates carnality and immaturity. When Christians focus on following different leaders or traditions, they ignore the unifying truth of the gospel. Instead of promoting self-seeking competition, believers are called to glorify Christ collectively, realizing that all are workers together for His kingdom. Division detracts from the central message of Christ's grace and the true nature of the church as His body.
