Why does God sometimes feel distant from us?

Answered in 1 source

God may withdraw His manifest presence to deepen our faith and reliance on Him.

At times, believers experience periods of spiritual dryness where God seems distant. This can be perplexing, but it often serves as a divine purpose to teach patience and to strengthen faith. In Exodus 14, when the Israelites faced the Red Sea, God's presence shifted from being in front of them to behind them, prompting them to trust in His word despite not seeing visible signs of His guidance. Isaiah 54:7 reassures us that even when God appears to forsake us, His covenant of mercy is unbreakable. These moments challenge us to seek Him more earnestly and reaffirm our dependence on His promises, reminding us that He is always working for our good, even in hidden ways.
