Why is Christ's sacrifice on the cross essential for salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's sacrifice is essential for salvation because it purged our sins completely.

The act of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross is central to the gospel. Hebrews 1 speaks of how He, by Himself, purged our sins, accomplishing the redemptive work that the Law could not. Through His blood shed on the cross, every ordinance against us was blotted out (Colossians 2:14), signifying that our sins are forgiven. This finished work assures us that, through faith in Christ, we have eternal redemption.
