Why is compassion important in the practice of faith?

Answered in 1 source

Compassion is essential as it reflects God's mercy and allows us to truly fulfill the law of love.

In John 7, Jesus confronts the Pharisees on their lack of compassion over healing someone on the Sabbath. He teaches that any religion that undermines mercy, tenderness, and compassion is false. Compassion reveals the heart of God towards sinners and is fundamental to Christian practice. As His followers, we are called to imitate this compassion in our relationships and ministry. The paradox in strict religious observance is that one can uphold the law yet fail to embody its essence, which is love and mercy. Therefore, as Christians, we must prioritize compassion above mere adherence to rules.
