Why is feeling grief over our sins important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Feeling grief over our sins is important as it reflects a sincere love for God and recognition of our imperfections.

Grief over sin is a significant indication of a genuine relationship with God. This sorrow stems from a deep awareness of our failures and a love that longs for holiness. As the Psalmist writes, 'The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart' (Psalm 51:17). This lamentation over sin does not only please God but also reminds us that we are in the process of transformation. Such feelings propel us toward deeper dependence on Christ and a greater appreciation for His redemptive work on the cross.
