Why is following Christ closely important for Christians?

Answered in 1 source

Following Christ closely protects us from denial and strengthens our faith amidst worldly distractions.

The importance of following Christ closely cannot be overstated, as exemplified by Peter's distance during Jesus' trial (Matthew 27:58). When we follow Christ from afar, we risk losing our distinctiveness as believers and becoming susceptible to the influences of the world, which can lead to spiritual coldness and denial of our faith. Scriptures like James 4:8 remind us that drawing near to God results in Him drawing near to us, thereby reinforcing our faith and commitment. The more aligned we are with Christ, the better equipped we will be to face trials and the temptations of the world around us.
