Why is humility important for church leaders?

Answered in 2 sources

Humility is essential for church leaders as it reflects Christ's servant nature and fosters true community in the body of Christ.

Humility is crucial for church leaders because it aligns with the example set by Jesus, who taught that the greatest among them must be servants (Mark 10:43-45). By rejecting honorific titles and the status that comes with them, church leaders can foster an environment where all believers feel valued and equal. This humility counteracts the tendencies toward authoritarianism and elitism that can easily develop within church leadership structures. It encourages leaders to serve their congregations genuinely and creates a healthier dynamic within the church, grounded in mutual respect and shared ministry. Consequently, leaders are called to model this servant heart to manifest the truth of the priesthood of all believers.
