Why is it important to recognize our emptiness before God?

Acknowledging our emptiness is foundational in Reformed theology as it aligns our perspective with the truth of our need for Christ. When we see ourselves as spiritually bankrupt, we understand our inability to achieve righteousness on our own. This humility is essential for coming to Christ, as noted in Matthew 5:3, which states that the poor in spirit are blessed. It is through this recognition that we can truly be filled with the Holy Spirit and experience the fullness of God’s grace working within us. Only when we are empty can we be filled with His righteousness and life.
