Why is it wrong to add to or diminish from Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

Adding to or diminishing from Scripture makes God's Word ineffective and disrespectful to His authority.

Deuteronomy 4:2 cautions, 'Ye shall not add unto the word which I commanded you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it.' This principle is upheld throughout the Bible, including Revelation 22:18-19, which warns against altering God's Word. Such actions undermine scripture’s authority and can lead to false teachings, as traditions may be mistakenly placed above the commands of God, resulting in empty worship devoid of true understanding.
